Holiday crafting update

Repeating flower wallpaper.

I’m halfway through my holiday, and I have beenĀ eating ice cream, and lounging in the hammock. I’m planning on going to the beach at some point, possibly tomorrow if the nice weather holds. I have also been arting and crafting as planned and generally having some fun. There are some photos on the camera, but I’ve not sorted them yet, and probably won’t get them posted today.

I’ve been experimenting with an app called Amaziograph on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 running Android (it’s also on the iPad) and a stylus. The app is fun, though it could do with being able to save in better quality and crashing less. It’s got a lot of options for different kinds of mandalas and patterns, and I’m using it just for fun to relax. However, I noted in Instagram that it felt oddly cheaty making mandalas with it, less so the repeat wallpaper function. It’s just me being silly, I think, because it’s still my drawing, it’s just the software makes the whole repeating the patterns easier.

Anyhow, all pictures below produced in Amaziograph, the coloured one with circles around the edge was printed out and coloured with my Ohuhu markers. I need to do a review of those, because after a few weeks of using them I’m not entirely impressed, but that’s another blog post – there’s a less in-depth review by me on Amazon if you’re interested.

Tangentially to this, I used a printed out mandala from that app to play with some magic decofoil. This stuff is amazing, as it binds the foil to laser-printed patterns and text when you apply it and then run it through a laminator. The heat melts the toner and activates the glue on the foil so it sticks. I’ll be buying more of this stuff to play with in the future. Not this month, though. I’m too broke.

I rage arted again. A nice, big ‘Fuck Trump’ in patterned letters with a watercolour background. I wanted to play with my new Sakura Micron pens (which are genuinely amazing), and doodling patterns was a good way to do that. It’s actually on a watercoloured background, I was playing with some brush pens and this was a good use of the paper after I’d done. As for the subject… speaks for itself, really.

The words Fuck Trump in bold letters filled with fine doodles.

I have some other things planned for the rest of the week, including:

  • fun with papier mache
  • playing with UV resin
  • destroying pony beads in a coffee grinder
  • a watermelon

Whatever that lot ends up being, it probably won’t be as exciting as what’s going through your head right now while faced with the combination.
